THE Breakdown.

A peak behind the curtain to see how projects go from ideas to approvals. Below are some examples of the creative challenges overcome, and the results that make it all worthwhile.

  • Where we kicks things off. A collection of ideas and intuitions on where things might go. Our first opportunity to creatively align, and begin our exploration.

  • The hurdles are inevitable. The pivots after seeing a first cut, the realization that music needs to do something more for picture. The challenges are what make great work. An obstacle that forces you to rise to the occasion.

  • Our goal is always the same: to bring something fresh, unexpected, and uniquely tailored to each project.

Apple

“Catch Up Quick”

OVERVIEW

For Apple’s September Event, we were invited to expand and evolve “Play Me” by Fcukers. Crafting a version that could match the pace, shifting energy, and many chapters of this fast-moving recap.

CHALLENGE

While the original track paired well with picture, the film’s evolving narrative called for greater musical contrast. Moments that could breathe, build intensity, and spotlight each featured product. Our goal was to shape new chapters that felt seamless and true to the original, while elevating the overall aesthetic and film arc.

APPROACH

Working from the original stems, we composed new sections and added production elements that followed the pace and story arc of the film. Scoring to key moments, introducing fresh textures, and sculpting dynamics that mirrored the visual journey with precision and flow.

RESULT

The final score emerges as a natural evolution of the original - fluid, cinematic, and deeply intertwined with picture. It heightens energy where the story accelerates, eases back to let moments breathe, and unifies the piece into a cohesive, elevated whole.

LIFE IN A DAY

Black Pumas x Lucius

OVERVIEW

The seed of this project was simple but ambitious: bring two distinctly unique and contrasting artists together to reinterpret a well-known song. The idea was meant to mirror the film itself—celebrating both global diversity and the power of unity. With a premiere set for the Super Bowl, the pressure was on to make something truly special.

CHALLENGE

The biggest hurdle was identifying the right pairing of artists and the right song. Both choices were critical. We began with a massive list with ideas like FKA Twigs x David Byrne, or Rosalía x Kevin Parker. Combinations that sparked excitement but could be difficult to secure. When we landed on the song “Strangers,” Lucius immediately came to mind; we knew they had been covering it live. And once Black Pumas expressed interest, we knew we had something special.

APPROACH

We faced another creative challenge: we wanted the artists to fully inhabit the song and make it their own, yet the trailer required specific emotional beats and dynamics to match its ebb and flow. We aligned early through a creative call, establishing where the music needed to lift, breathe, and shift. As they developed the first versions, we provided feedback to help shape those moments. Using the stems from their final recording, we ultimately crafted a bespoke arrangement tailored to the trailer.

RESULT

The finished piece is an authentic, deeply soulful interpretation from a group of uniquely thoughtful artists, shaped into a cinematic, raw, and emotional score for the film. Collaborating with Black Pumas and Lucius was an absolute pleasure, and their openness throughout the process was essential to creating this piece.

Georgia o’Keeffe

“One Hundred Flowers”

OVERVIEW

The objective was to create a score for the first room of the “One Hundred Flowers” experience that feels welcoming, reflects the visual language, and loops seamlessly while guests wait to enter the main room.

CHALLENGE

Composing music for something entirely new is always a challenge. In this case, we needed a score that felt aligned with the modernist, abstract, and deeply personal style of Georgia O’Keeffe. We also had to ensure the piece would sound great in a mostly empty, untreated room and loop without any audible seams while guests wait to enter the next room.

APPROACH

By choosing unique timbres and carefully selected sound sources, we created a modern minimalist score that provides a subtle contrast to the flowing, breathing animations. The piece was developed and then tested in the actual space with the performance audio system to confirm that it felt right acoustically and looped cleanly.

RESULT

The final score became a counterpoint to the artwork. Percolating articulations function almost like musical pointillism, driving the piece forward and building anticipation while still maintaining an inviting tone.
